GET TO KNOW THE STAFF
One of the most surprising things discovered so far in starting this new church is how very important it is for people to really know their ministers. Because of this, we've asked several people who are new to the church to email questions that would help in this process. Below, you will find the questions and answers. Here we go…
- Hunter Townsend Brewer, minister of teaching

Q: Where are you from, where did you go to school, and how did you meet Vicki?
A: I am from the booming metropolis of Gadsden, Alabama. I graduated from Samford University where I met my wife Vicki, who is from Tupelo.
Q: When did you know you wanted to be a minister?
A: When I was in law school at Alabama, two people in my study group would constantly debate whether Christianity was true or not. I had never heard anyone argue effectively against the existence of God and it really troubled me. It was during this time that I began to question my faith and my calling in life. Over the next two years, God answered some very difficult questions for me and helped me realize that I was being called to the ministry.
Q: Why start a new church?
A: Over time, I’ve discovered that I really enjoy talking to people who have reservations about God and/or the Church. I like explaining the hard truths of Christianity to those with questions and reassuring people who doubt about the love of Christ. In seminary, I learned that new churches typically afford the most opportunities to do this. So, there was no doubt in my mind that I would help start a new church one day.
Q: What are your favorite television shows, movies, books, and types of music?
A: My favorite television shows are 24, The Colbert Report, and Nightline. Actually, I probably watch more reruns of King of Queens, Frazier, Seinfeld, and Everbody Loves Raymond than anything. I love movies and I am addicted to Netflix; however, I typically don't watch a movie more than once so I am bad in terms of naming favorites. As far as books go, that is more difficult. I guess if I had to choose it would be between A Glorious Cause, Desiring God, A Strange and Long Voyage, and Rammer Jammer. If you could see my iPod then you would know that I am all over the place when it comes to music.
Q: What did you have to do to become a minister in your denomination?
A: Our denomination requires that a minister must have a college degree (Samford in my case) and seminary degree (Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando). Also, you must serve an internship, pass oral and written exams, and submit papers proving competency in Greek, Hebrew, and theology. For someone who ran away from kindergarten, I am still amazed that I made it.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I enjoy anything that has to do with sports. According to some, I have an unhealthy interest in the Crimson Tide. I also like movies and reading. As a couple, Vicki and I love to travel.
- Josh Kines, minister of community (also on Facebook)
Q: Where are you from, where did you go to school, and how did you meet Emily?
A: I am from Mobile, Alabama where I graduated from Baker High School, home of the mighty Hornets! I went to William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS where I met my precious wife. I also graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson.
Q: When did you know you wanted to be a minister?
A: I came to know Christ out of a bad background so salvation was a radical lifestyle change for me. Before, all I knew was sin and pain, and after coming to faith all I new was joy and peace. Nothing else made since but to spend my life talking about that to others.
Q: What are your favorite television shows, movies, books, and types of music?
A: Honestly, I don't watch a lot of television but I am pretty avid about watching House every single week. Yes he is perfectly horrible but man its fun to watch him fix stuff. Other than that, I watch Duke during basketball season, Alabama during football season, and Monday night football. Concerning books, two of the most influential ones in my life have been Desiring God by John Piper and Knowing God by J.I. Packer. And as far as music goes, I love just about everything but country though most of what I listen to is praise and worship music.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I enjoy anything related to sports. I really enjoy time with all my girls. We love going to the zoo, the science museum, and the various playgrounds around town.
